Laser cladding is a kind of new composite material by using high-energy laser beam to irradiate the metal surface, and then cladding a layer of material with special physical, chemical or mechanical properties on the substrate surface through rapid melting and cooling. The metal cladding machine can obtain high-performance precious metal alloy steel surface on low-performance cheap steel.

Copper alloys are widely used in marine engineering because of their excellent resistance to seawater corrosion and wear reduction. Parts of this material also need to be repaired due to corrosion and modulus to restore their original size and function. Compared with chrome plating, laser cladding does not pollute the environment and can overcome the disadvantage of low repair efficiency. Compared with fusion welding, laser cladding overcomes the problems of welding deformation and large heat affected zone, thus greatly improving the repair quality. In addition, laser cladding machine does not damage the properties of base metal materials when removing waste paint and anodized coating.

In summary, laser cladding is a rapid solidification technology, which can produce excellent structure and performance that cannot be obtained in a balanced state. There is no limit to the substrate, and the composition of the coating can be designed according to the performance. The surface layer of high-alloy steel with excellent performance can be prepared on cheap steel and the bonding strength with the substrate is high, which is unmatched by other surface treatment processes. It is especially suitable for the surface treatment and repair of common wearing parts under the conditions of corrosion, friction and wear in the marine environment.

Marine development has entered the age of the deep sea, and equipment operating stability in the harsh Marine environment is limited by materials. Laser cladding has outstanding performance in improving the corrosion resistance of materials, and has a very good use value in the research and development of ocean engineering, which has been well verified in the shipbuilding industry. With the development of laser cladding research, especially the research on the crack caused by large area cladding, laser cladding will be more widely used in ocean engineering and provide strong support for ocean engineering.
